Coming March 17th 2027In the winter of 1971 in South Korea, a child is conceived. The daughter of an unmarried Korean woman and an American military officer, Ji An’s life is precarious at best. What is to become of a half-American, half-Korean child in a post-war Korea? A life on the edges of society, without a place in the world? Or the life of an adoptee in the United States? Since the Korean War, over 133,000 South Korean children have been adopted by American families. An infinite number of lives were possible for each of those children. Where they lived, how they grew up, what they became, who they loved, and who would love them in return became a matter of chance. Perhaps it’s the hallways of a New Jersey public school, or the quiet sadness of a broken marriage in a Chicago suburb, or the rural life of a cobbled-together family on a Michigan farm. For Ji An, it is all a matter of chance. A spin of a roulette wheel.
